if plus size people say they don’t like how skinny people are buying all the good plus size clothes from the thrift store so they can ~refashion~ them and your reaction is to ignore the fact that skinny people can wear small clothes and instead tell the plus size people to sew clothes from scratch instead of telling the skinny people–who are already involving sewing in the process–to sew from scratch…

whimsyandmayhem

If you are a skinny person who wants to refashion clothes, consider buying clothes in your size that fit poorly and tailoring them rather than treating clothes for fat people as if they were a bolt of fabric. And if you want a second hand bolt of fabric…buy a tablecloth! Or curtains!

FASCIST THINKING!!! OMG!!!!!

Yeah, I imagine if I had just said “If you look at two people, one of whom is refashioning thrift store clothes and the other of whom is saying they would just like to buy cute stuff from the thrift store, and you told the person who just wanted to buy thrift that they should sew clothes from scratch, instead of suggesting to the person already using sewing skills to refashion clothes, that maybe they could sew from scratch, that would be odd” and left size out of it, I probably wouldn’t have gotten even a hand full of notes

but

throw in the size aspect

and people focus on that and start to say it’s irrational to dictate how people acquire their clothes

which…was my point

(along with “telling people to just start sewing severely devalues the skills, materials cost–even at thrift prices–and time commitment involved in sewing,” an unstated point that my mutuals would have understood, because a lot of people in my mutual group sew.  Also, anyone who sews knows that it’s not insulting at all to use curtains and tablecloths.  I have made some very cute things from curtains and tablecloths–thrifted curtains and tablecloths. Sheets, too.)
